How ties are broken
A tie in the pool standings is resolved by calculation under BCMBA Rule 29.01. There is no tiebreaker game. The criteria are applied in order until the tie is broken:
- A team that forfeited a game played between the tied teams is automatically eliminated from the tie.
- Best win/loss record in the games between the tied teams.
- Fewest runs allowed per defensive inning, counting only games between the tied teams.
- Most runs scored per offensive inning, counting only games between the tied teams.
- Best record against the highest placed team not in the tie, then the next placed team, and so on.
- If teams are still tied, the rules are applied again to just those teams, counting only the games between them.
Where three or more teams are tied and one criterion separates only some of them, the remaining criteria are recalculated from the games involving all of the originally tied teams, as the rule requires. If a tie survives every criterion, the standings say so rather than picking a team, and the tournament director settles the placement.
